Marks and Spencer’s Workshops

I’m the Education and Outreach Officer at the M&S Company Archive in Leeds, and we are looking into the possibility of creating activities and resources for Guide and Scout groups. We run a busy schools programme of workshops, and have a wealth of resources and inspiration at our fingertips in the form of the M&S archive collection which spans the 135-year history of the company and comprises over 71,000 items. (You can find out more about the archive and the workshops we run here https://marksintime.marksandspencer.com/home). As well as local history we also cover topics such as food and textile technology, business studies, enterprise, packaging, Fair Trade, careers, women’s history, sustainability, design and media.

We have had a few visits from Guide and Brownie groups which have been very well received, so we’d like to build on this interest and create a full programme to help Guides, Brownies and Rainbows achieve and/or create badges.

It would be great to hear if this is something that would be of interest, and if so, to work with a local group to co-create and launch the programme here in Leeds. We’d also be looking at creating digital resources to make the material accessible to Guides and Scouts everywhere!

Looking forward to hearing from you.
