Learning about Democracy (for 9+ year olds)

Hello Girlguide Leaders

ROX PAPER AND THE SCISSORS is a new play about democracy for 9+ year olds. We would love it if Girl Guides and Brownies could come and see how autocratic school bully Rox, head girl (rule of law) Paper and reckless class clown The Scissors battle to become school president but find out the hard way that not all elections are fought fairly.

At the climax of the play, an audience vote will be held. These votes will be counted and the final vote count declared at the end of the tour. We believe in the importance of Citizenship (PSHCE) education and that there has never been a more critical time for children to develop questioning and debating skills, or as we say at Gone to the Dogs: Rollicking Politics = Confident Questioning. But most of all, it’s going to be fun.

We’re going to be at theatres in York, Harrogate, Hartlepool, Richmond (North Yorkshire), Scarborough and Leeds in March 2019. Please see the flyer attached for details.

Hands up though, I do appreciate that most of the shows are due to be held in school hours with the exception of Richmond (6pm, 12th March) and York (2pm, 23rd March). However, as a mum of a Guide, a Cub and soon to be a Brownie, I would love to work with you to see if there is any way that I could facilitate your groups or members to attend.

Please let me know if you would like further information.
Best wishes
